FAQ

✱   What is a zine?
A zine is any collection of work that is independently or small-batch published. Zines have a rich history in fandom, counterculture, music, and politics. This project is a fan zine, meaning it has a central theme around a specific fandom—in this case, Code: Lyoko!
✱   How will this zine work?
The project will start with an interest check, to gauge interst for the project. Should there be enough interest, contributor applications will open for both artists and writers. Folks who are interested in contributing will apply, and after the window closes, those who are accepted will be notified. Once all of the artists and writers have been notified, they will have three months to create a single piece for the zine. The mods will compile all of them into a single work—and ta-da—a zine is born!
✱   Do you need any prior zine experience?
Nope! This project is open to anyone and everyone who wishes to contribute!
✱   What is the zine schedule?
Click on the schedule tab at the top of the page!
✱   Who are the mods?
Click on the mods tab at the top of the page to read more about us!
✱   How many contributors will there be?
With the interest check results back, we are anticipating around 40-50 contributors! This is not a hard cut-off, but an estimate.
✱   Can I apply/ contribute as an artist and a writer?
Yes! You may apply for as many positions as you'd like, but you may only formally accept up to two positions should you be accepted to more.
✱   Will this be a for-profit project?
Nope. This is a fully volunteer based project. We will be accepting donations, but they are not mandatory. As of now, we have yet to announce which charity we will choose.
✱   I want to apply as a contributor, what should I submit?
We want to see your work! In order to apply, we are asking for a portfolio/ selection of works that are relevant to the position you are applying for. None of the pieces need to be Code: Lyoko related, but it is certainly a plus!
If you're applying for a page artist, spot art, or comic position, we'll expect to see at least 5 pieces of art that show your style and capabilities. If you’re applying for the cover art position, we will be looking for at least 5 pieces that exemplify your use of composition, proportion, and show a strong ability to draw backgrounds. We HIGHLY suggest submitting at least one Code: Lyoko art piece! If you’re applying for a merch position, we will be looking for at least 5 pieces that show your skill at merch-making. Whether they be stickers, keychains, wallpapers, or print designs, we want the best look at what you bring to the table. If you're applying for an author position, we'll expect to see 3-7 pieces of writing. At least one of the pieces must be within 1-5k words. All submissions must be less than 10k words. If you would like to submit a sample from a larger work (a work that exceeds 10k words), please submit only a selection, or state that we should look at a single chapter! If you submit a piece longer than 10k and give no instructions, we will only read the first 10k words.✱   I’ve never submitted to a zine before! What does a portfolio look like?
We prepared several example portfolios at this link if you’d like to take a look. Feel free to message/email us if you have more questions!

mods

✱   VEX     Co-Mod & Writing Mod     they/sheHey there! I am a long-time Code Lyoko lover, and am lucky to be one part of the amazing Code: Swap team! This is my first time moderating a digitally based fanzine, but I have organized six zine projects irl with the distro I founded at my university. Otherwise, I have contributed both writing and art for eight other fanzine projects (six complete, and two not yet released), as well as eight other anthology/submission based zines (six complete, two not yet released). If you'd like to see these projects, check out my website! In terms of this project I’ll be handling much of the main communication, organization, and day-to-day functions.

✱   KITTY     Co-Mod    she/herHello, I'm Kitty!
I've been apart of the Code Lyoko fandom since I was 13. I am one of the mods for Code Swap. While I have little zine experience, I have plenty of project management experience in both my online and real life!
I’ll be helping support Vex when needed with communication and organization, and will help with the formatting and layout of the zine itself.
